The club had its contest a few weeks ago and Nancy and Dwight were selected as the Cultivated Toastmaster’s Club representatives to move forward to the Area Contest.
Nancy revived her family tale of Canoeing at Night, a humorous story of her smart, professor – husband’s unwise choice of a canoe trip down the rocky canyon of the Kinnickinnic River – at sunset – in mid-November. Don’t worry, he survived the river’s rage… but was less lucky with Nancy.
At the Area Contest, Nancy placed third.
Congratulations to Nancy.
Dwight represented the club in the Evaluation Contest. He did place second – did I mention there were only two contestants at the Area level.
Are you confused? Have you lost your Path? The changes to the Toastmaster Educational Program, called Pathways, can be confusing, especially for those that have been involved in the old printed manual process. However, rest assured, the goals, objectives, and skills learned through Toastmasters remains the same, albeit through the new web-based technologies.
It provides a thorough walk through of the structure of the Pathways Educational Program, then on the final pages, it gives links for more details on every Path and every project so you can see the path ahead for the Pathway you have chosen.
The first level for all paths is the same: a short icebreaker and how to receive, give, and use evaluations. After that, a path may have two or three additional levels of more advanced skills.
To complete a Path, you need to practice and demonstrate skills in your chosen path. This will include 15 speeches as well as a mix of other planning, organizational or leadership skills. To see a list of projects for any selected Path, click on the Path of interest listed here: https://karenstorey.com/PATHWAYS/TI-10-PATHS.htm
I hope you have the time to review this summary of the Pathways educational program. (It took me about 10 minutes to read through every page and visit some of the additional links I was interested in.)
On July 24, 2018 the Cultivated Toastmasters club had a special walking tour of the monuments on the State Capitol grounds. Club members Ben, Michelle, Dwight, Michael, and John gave 5-7 minutes speeches at four monuments. We had a great turn out, with many guests joining us for this fun special event. We plan to conduct a similar walking tour meeting of the interior of the State Capitol this winter. Keep checking the Cultivated Toastmasters website for more details!
